The interview process is always done after the written test phase. Of course, the interview process is definitely eligible for the participants who passed the previous tests.

It shows how important a job interview in the recruitment process, it even perhaps overcomes a written test and other tests. Therefore, do not be surprised if there is a company that does not examine the prospective employees in the written test but only the interview test. The job interview is a formal and in-depth conversation, which is conducted with an aim to evaluate whether the applicant is acceptable, or not.

Simply, the interviewer will be digging out the answer from the two most essential questions: Can the applicant do the job later? Then, what about the ability of the applicant compares with other applicants?

In the recruitment process, job interview have a high degree of flexibility, as it can be applied for both operational and managerial candidates, high or low skill, or staff. This technique also allows two-way exchange of information: interviewer learns about the applicants, and the applicants study about the company instead.

In short, interview is one of the methods to extract the data or information, which is very important and relatively often used to measure an individual’s ability. However, there is also an interview conducted by presenting several interviewers simultaneously or separately one by one (usually called the interview panel). The length of interviews varied, usually about 20 minutes to 1 hour, but there is also a very short time just 5-15 minutes. It depends on the purpose and interview techniques used.

In the selection process, the general purpose of the interview is to obtain some important information needed to measure a certain aspects of behavior. Such information is generally difficult to obtain through the written test only. Nowadays, interview is one of the most important tools used in the assessment of prospective employees. Besides digging up the information, interview is also used to clarify or confirm the data obtained, for example, the things listed in the curriculum vitae. Job interview is currently one of the important aspects in the recruitment process and the employees’ selection. Although the validity of the in the interview is considerably lower that other selection methods like psycho test, but the interview has many advantages that makes it easier to use by the official selection.

Whatever the applicants’ think (employees candidates), job interview actually gives an opportunity for the applicants to turn the job vacancies into job offers. Considering that the job interview is a job search process that allows the applicants to obtain a direct access to the company (employer), and then the “performance” in the job interview is something crucial in determining whether the applicant will be accepted or rejected.

For the applicant, job interviews provide an opportunity to explain directly about the experience, knowledge, skills, and various other factors that are useful to convince the company that he is worthy (qualified) to do the job (in office) offered. Besides that, job interview also allows the applicants to demonstrate interpersonal skills, professional, and lifestyle or the personality of applicants. If applicants can only claim that he has a good communication and interpersonal skills in the CV (Curriculum Vitae), then he is given a chance to prove it in the interview.

For the company, the job interview is one way to find a match between the characteristics of the applicants with the job requirements that must be owned by the applicant to hold the position/ job offer. In general, the objectives of a job interview are:

  1. Know the applicant’s personality.
  2. Search for relevant information required for the job position.
  3. Obtain the necessary additional information for the position and company.
  4. Help the company to identify the applicants who deserve to be given job offers.
